Enveloppe #14 - Paris

After receiving the envelope, the first thing that came to mind was to think about the next person to whom I would pass it on so that the work could evolve. There was something about choosing the “most capable person” to take it on its journey, but also the feeling that I had to choose someone with whom I would be connected “for life” through this experience.

I wanted this person to be close to me and to share the same artistic sensibility so that we could share this work together, which would become a collective performance. After thinking it over, I chose to pass the envelope on to a dear friend with whom I have a special relationship that has changed a lot over the past year, with whom I have shared many experiences, and who happened to be present with me that day at Paris Photo 2025.

Before passing on the envelope, however, it took me some time to decide on a particular diptych. So one day I sat down and lined up all the prints in front of me. I forced myself not to think and chose the ones that attracted me the most, the ones I kept coming back to: #1 and #21.

I think it took me so long to settle on a pair of images because making a choice also seemed to mean letting go of all of the other prints and never having access to them again. Still, I was very happy to finally hand over the envelope to my friend and know that from then on it would be his responsibility. I am now curious to see which diptychs will be chosen by the future owners of envelope #14 and what we will then share together.
